What is a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) Permit Class?
A CCW Permit Class provides the training required to obtain your concealed carry license. It covers firearm safety, handling, storage, and Iowa laws on carrying and using a firearm for self-defense.
Do I need to bring my own firearm?
You can bring your own firearm if you have one, but loaner firearms are often available. Check with the instructor when booking to confirm options.
What should I bring to class?
A valid photo ID, pen and notebook, eye and ear protection, and your firearm and ammunition (if applicable). Dress comfortably for range activities.
Will I receive a certificate after completing the class?
Yes. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a certificate of training that can be submitted when applying for your Iowa Permit to Carry.
How old do I need to be to take the class?
You must be at least 21 years old to apply for a standard Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons.
How do I apply for my Iowa Permit to Carry after the class?
After completing the course, you can apply through your local sheriff’s office by submitting your certificate of training, photo ID, and applicable fees.
